TOURIST DESTINATION

 PAINITAN SA CABADBARAN

Local Indigenous food has been one of my secret cravings. As I visit Cabadbaran City, Painitan grabbed my attention a few seconds just before I stepped out of the grindy multi-cab. Located just at the side of the bus terminal, every tourist and traveler will notice this pub. It has a homely ambiance that makes me feel at home.

Whenever I travel during chilly seasons or early in the morning, I never missed having a quick stop at Painitan and having a delectable Puto maya and sikwati served at the auburn wooden table in front of me. I even have this catchphrase: “Travelling has never been great without a cup of sikwati”, that makes me laugh every time I remember it. The taste of specially hand-made local food was very distinct and delicious, at least to my tongue. There is just something so special about it that makes people come back to Painitan, every time they travel to Cabadbaran City.

 Famous Food:

Sikwati (PHP20.00) –  is a local term for hot chocolate. It is made from pure cacao beans that are ground on the spot as it is being prepared for the waiting customers

Puto Maya  (PHP10.00)- is made from glutinous brown rice which is a perfect pair for sikwati.

CAASINAN BEACH (VINZADA RESORT)

The sea has never failed to amaze me. I even considered it as my calming sanctuary. As a student who has lived in Cabadbaran City for almost a year and a half, I cannot count how many times I have been to Caasinan beach. Its rich waters and humid air are good place for swimming and water sports.

Caasinan has more to offer in terms of seascape, too. It displays a beautiful pastel sunset that decorates the horizon with a mix of pinkish, reddish, and orangey soft hues during sunset and a beautiful golden yellow soft light peeping through the clouds during the dawn, which in my experience, is a sight to see. This wonderful body of water does not only provide bountiful fishing areas for the locals but also serves fantastic scenery to tourists!

 The Locals:

The majority of the locals are owners of cottages that can be rented whenever you visit the beach. As a person visiting there a couple of times, I could say the locals in the place are very kind, accommodating, friendly and hospitable. If it is your first time visiting Caasinan, expect that a friendly local will make your visit comfortable and memorable.

The air was fresh and cool shades from more than a hundred species of trees all over the farm. Visiting there with family or friends will surely turn out relaxing.

 MUSEO DE CABADBARAN

Considered one of the region’s pride and called the throwback of Cabadbaran’s rich cultural heritage and history, Museo de Cabadbran also Showcases the past, present, and future of both Cabadbaran city and Cabadbaranons. I visited this place in April and marveled at the artifacts that have rich historical significance, aged through time, and allowed us to have a glimpse of the past.

What it has to offer:

Moreover, it houses artifacts such as ancient indigenous weapons and ceramics which are traded by the Chinese, dating way back to the Sung Dynasty. A boat coffin where a mother and a child’s corpses are enclosed as part of the pagan rituals of the early inhabitants in Cabadbaran. A sewing machine and a typewriter are said to be used during and after World War II.

One of its interesting highlights is the time capsule where clothes, mobile phones, and other things that we use today, are enclosed in a tightly sealed capsule to be opened in the coming 100 years. Imagine the life we are living today and the clothes we wear will be considered an artifact in the future. Like, how cool will that be, right?

Cabadabaran City, if not in the entire northeastern Mindanao is one of the oldest settlements in the province of Agusan del Norte. It is the home of the Virgen de la Candelaria church.  This massive Victorian-style church built in the early 20th century is a sight one should visit. It does not only serve as a regular church to catholic devotees but is also a nice place to visit especially for tourists traveling for pilgrimage during the Lenten season.

Moreover, the church have been burned for unknown reasons between 1904 and 1906. Thus, the church has undergone quite a few renovations since 1910 under the leadership of the renowned Father Saturnino Urios and Father Ignacio Villa. The church was then founded on November 7, 1913.

Virgen de la Candelaria church houses several statues of the Virgen Mary, which is the main patron of the church It has a uniquely designed high ceiling and a magnificent structure that is perfect for taking a photo.
